Getting Started

The video tutorials below are about SAP HANA Cloud administration topics like manage services, alerts, performance monitoring, backup, security, etc.

For more general information about the new SAP HANA Cloud service, like product information, documentation, training, etc., see the blog post

If you want to follow along with this tutorial, you will need an SAP HANA Cloud instance up and running. Philip MUGGLESTONE shows how in his video tutorial series and also addresses development topics

Alternatively, you can follow the steps from the blog post by Maxime Simon, Start working with SAP HANA Cloud.

What’s New

Below we will cover some of the changes versus the SAP HANA platform edition (on-premise) and the SAP Cloud Platform, SAP HANA Service on a topic by topic basis. For a complete list, see

Manage Services

In this video tutorial, we navigate from the Overall Database Status card to the Manage Services view and explain the information displayed and what actions can be performed from this view (app). We also briefly compare the view with the predecessor of HANA Cloud, the SAP HANA Service, and with the on-premise environment. Finally, we show how the same information can be obtained using SQL and the Database Explorer Statement Library.

What’s New (and Changed)?

The following services are not (yet) included in SAP HANA Cloud

  • Docstore, preprocessor, and scriptserver

For more information and resources, see the blog post

Alerts

The Alerts card and app display information trigger by the internal monitoring infrastructure as the SAP. There are well over 130 alert events defined, which can be edited for thresholds.

What’s New (and Changed)?

The following functionality is not included in the SAP HANA cockpit for SAP HANA Cloud

  • E-mail notification

For more information and resources, see the blog post

Performance Monitoring

The SAP HANA cockpit for SAP HANA Cloud provides several cards on System Overview and several apps for performance monitoring. In this video, we show how to work with the CPU | Memory | Disk Usage cards, with Performance Monitoring and Performance Comparison, with Workload Analysis and Memory Analysis, and with the new apps for buffer cache and memory paging monitoring.

What’s New (and Changed)?

The following apps are new in the SAP HANA cockpit for SAP HANA Cloud

  • Buffer Cache Monitor
  • Memory Paging Monitor
  • Load Unit Configuration

Monitoring Sessions, Threads, Statements

In this second video tutorial about monitoring SAP HANA Cloud with SAP HANA cockpit, we take a look at Sessions, Threads, Blocked Transactions, Monitor Statements, and Table Usage.

What’s New (and Changed)?

The following functionality is disabled for SAP HANA Cloud

  • File-based tracing

Database Backups

In this video tutorial about database backups for SAP HANA Cloud with SAP HANA cockpit, we take a look at the card and apps. Spoiler alert. It is FYI.

What’s New (and Changed)?

Compared to the SAP HANA cockpit for SAP HANA platform (on-premise) there are no changes for the Database Backup user interface (SAP HANA cockpit) but backup is configured as a restricted feature for the SAP HANA Cloud H00 tenant database and hence not configurable. It is part of the managed service.

For more information and resources, see the blog post

System Configuration

In this video tutorial about system configuration for SAP HANA Cloud with SAP HANA cockpit, we take a look at the System Configuration app.

What’s New (and Changed)?

System configuration (and app) work the same as with SAP HANA systems on-premise. The biggest difference is that SAP HANA Cloud is a tenant database and so the number of parameters available for configuration is limited.
